Die Stiftung bezweckt die fachliche, wissenschaftliche und finanzielle Unterstützung für Projekte und wissenschaftliche Arbeiten auf dem Gebiet der Gerätetechnologie, der Strahlenqualitäten, ihrer medizinischen Anwendungen und der Erforschung der Wirkung ionisierender Strahlen; die Organisation und Durchführung des Zuppinger-Symposiums, beinhaltend auch die Verleihung der Zuppinger-Medaille. Das Symposium findet alle zwei Jahre statt.
