Zweck der Stiftung ist die Erhaltung und Förderung der genetischen Vielfalt in Fauna und Flora. Im Sinne der Pflege des natürlichen und kulturhistorischen Erbes setzt sie sich sowohl für freilebende als auch für domestizierte Lebensformen ein. Ihre Bemühungen gelten insbesondere den vom Aussterben bedrohten europäischen Nutztierrassen und Kulturpflanzen sowie deren wilden Vorfahren. Die Stiftung verfolgt ihre Ziele im In- und Ausland.
